Ugly Betty Spoilers, Speculation & Gossip

Salma Hayek won’t guest on Ugly Betty until after birth

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007 on SpoilerBuzz.com

Salma Hayek won’t be making an appearance on Ugly Betty anytime soon, now that she is expecting a baby.

Ugly Betty magazine magnates Sophia Reyes and Daniel Meade are on the outs, now that executive producer Salma Hayek is pregnant in real life one wonders: Will Sophia announce she’s pregnant with Daniel’s child? Producers of the show say that story line would be up to Hayek.

But Eric Mabius (Daniel) leaves little doubt about what fans should expect. “[Salma] has made it very clear that she’s not going to be returning,” said the actor, who mingled with co-stars America Ferrera, Mark Indelicato and Becki Newton at the April 30 Ugly Betty event hosted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in Los Angeles. “She likes to keep her private life very private.”

Kind of refreshing that a star doesn’t want to exploit her pregnancy for the ratings boost, doesn’t seem to happen very often these days, especially when it could be written into a storyline for an extra juicy plotline!

Meanwhile, when invited by Henry to Charlie’s birthday party, a desperate Betty asks Dr. Farkas, her orthodontist, to be her date. Finally, Amanda catches the eye of an unusual designer who claims that she is his muse.

Ugly Betty taps Project Runway’s Tim Gunn as fashion correspondent

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 on SpoilerBuzz.com
timgunn.jpgWord comes that the ever-popular Tim Gunn, made famous by his appearances on the last three seasons of Project Runway, will be appearing on Ugly Betty as a fashion consultant.

He will appear in two episodes which air during February sweeps. His episodes will air February 1 and 8. There is no word about when the episodes of the popular comedy were taped.

Gunn will appear as a fashion correspondent during Ugly Betty’s version of Fashion Week.

It is a popular show and there has been some speculation that someone from Project Runway might be appearing on Ugly Betty. And Tim Gunn is definitely the highest profile of the group, not to mention the publicity he has been getting lately with all the will-they-or-won’t-they-sign-him on Project Runway for the fourth season.

He has also recently landed his own show on Bravo, based upon the fashion book he is currently writing.

Ugly Betty gets appearance from American Idol alum Katharine McPhee

Friday, January 12th, 2007 on SpoilerBuzz.com

katharinemcphee.jpg

Katharine McPhee will make a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of Ugly Betty. She will play herself, and the appearance will not only coincide with the release of her new album two days earlier, but also marks the beginning of February sweeps. Katharine gained celeb status after her run on American Idol.

She appears on the February 1st episode of Ugly Betty. I wonder how they will incorporate Katharine into the show. It is sometimes harder to incorporate those “celebs appearing as themselves” on shows rather than ones you create a character for. But they tend to work better for those with no or limited acting experience. Sometimes those singers just can’t cut it as actors… just ask Britney!

Added: She will be a celeb guest at a Mode runway show.

It takes a brave B-list man to publicly announce he wanta a cameo on his ex-girlfriend’s show. But that is exactly what Edward Norton has done. Norton, who was with Hayek from 1999-2003, has said how happy he is for her.

Norton - who dated Hayek from 1999-2003 - is blown away by the series, which she created and produced. And he confesses he’s planning to get in touch with her about securing a cameo. He says, “I’m really happy for Salma. She deserves it.”

Hmmm… is someone looking to get back together with a certain ex-gf?

Ugly Betty cast to give New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick a makeover

Saturday, October 28th, 2006 on SpoilerBuzz.com

Looks like the cast of Ugly Betty will be getting busy Monday night in an attempt to transform Bill Belichick, New England Patriots coach, into, uh, Tom Brady?

From the press release:

Americas new icon, Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), her boss, Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) and nemesis Amanda (Becki Newton) decide to tackle New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick in a segment during ESPNs Monday Night Countdown NFL pre-game show, October 30 at 7:00 p.m., ET. The team from fashions leading Mode Magazine decide to sack the coach and give him a photoshop makeover that helps him score, turning him into quarterback Tom Brady.

Bill Belichick is well known for his lack of fashion sense, often looking as though he forgot to shower or change his clothes for a week.

Not sure how they will be pulling this off, but it will probably be worth watching!

Salma Hayek to guest star on Ugly Betty for November Sweeps

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006 on SpoilerBuzz.com

salmahayek.jpg

Salma Hayek, the executive producer for the freshman hit Ugly Betty, will be starring in several episodes of the hit series starting November 2nd… and just in time for November sweeps.

Hayek, an executive producer of ABC’s new series “Ugly Betty,” will go in front of the camera for several episodes starting Thursday, Nov. 2 — the first night of November sweeps. She’ll be playing a character named Sofia Reyes, who ABC describes as “a newcomer to the Mode scene who will leave a lasting impression on Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) and Betty Suarez (America Ferrera).”

Hayek has already done an uncredited cameo on the show’s pilot, appearing as an actress in a telenovela (which is how she got her start in showbiz) playing in Betty’s home.

There is always danger of a famous person behind-the-scenes to guest star and overshadow the cast, so it will be interesting to see how Salma prevents this happening with Ugly Betty.
